Nikki Woodson

Nikki C. Woodson is a distinguished educational leader and the former Superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township, serving from 2011–2025. As the first African-American female superintendent in Marion County, she led a district of more than 12,000 diverse students and 1,800 employees with a strong focus on equity, excellence, and innovation. Her career spans roles as Teacher, Principal, Director, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent, reflecting her deep commitment to public education in the Indianapolis area. Woodson holds degrees from Ball State University, Butler University, and Purdue University, and is a published author and leadership columnist. Her work has earned numerous honors, including Ball State’s G.O.L.D. Award, AASA’s Women in School Leadership Award, the Madam C.J. Walker Legacy Award, and recognition as Indy’s Best & Brightest. Today, she mentors leaders, provides consulting and keynote services, serves on the Tobias Leadership Center Advisory Board, and teaches in the Educational Leadership & Policy Studies program at Indiana University.
