Bianca Vega was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. She attended Stanford University where she studied Human Biology with a specialty in Gender Issues. Although Bianca was primarily interested in the health care system, she consistently heard professors say that disparities in health care stemmed from disparities in education. As a result, Bianca joined Teach for America in Los Angeles and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Loyola Marymount University. Bianca earned the Kenneth L. Moffett Bilingual Education award while at Loyola Marymount. Bianca continued to teach in bilingual classrooms in San Francisco and during that time was awarded the Fund for Teachers fellowship and received a grant to study the habitats of manatees and dolphins in Belize. Her love and passion for travel took her to Phuket, Thailand for a year where she taught multiple grades in a local Thai school’s English Programme. She continued traveling and teaching internationally and taught ESL in Mexico then landed in Medellin, Colombia at The Columbus School (a K-12 US accredited school). While in Colombia she became an instructional coach and then Assistant Vice Principal of the middle school. Both of Bianca’s children were born in Colombia and after living there for seven years, she returned to Santa Barbara, California as the Assistant Head of School at Santa Barbara Middle School. When not diving into all things education related, you can find Bianca spending time with her family, reading mysteries and historical fiction, spinning on her Peloton, mountain biking, jogging, or at her favorite Hip Hop class.
